John Paul Malayil, MD is an ACGME Board-Certified interventional spine and pain management specialist at NovaSpine Pain Institute practicing at the Sun City West location in Arizona.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Malayil was awarded a Board of Governor’s Scholarship and was accepted into an accelerated combined Bachelor’s of Science and Medical School program straight out of high school. He completed his undergraduate studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in nearby Indiana, PA. During his undergraduate studies, he was fortunate to study abroad in Cuernavaca, Morelos in Mexico and become proficient in conversational Spanish.

Upon graduation from college, he obtained his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine from Philadelphia, PA and then went on to complete his anesthesiology residency at Rutgers- New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. Due to his hard work and leadership skills, he was elected to be chief resident his final year. Dr. Malayil then completed his interventional pain management fellowship at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA where he was taught by some of the most well-respected leaders in the field of pain management.

Dr. Malayil brings with him to NovaSpine Pain Institute over a decade of experience and an optimistic and positive attitude to help ease patient’s fears while dealing with acute and chronic pain. He implements a patient-centered approach to utilize the most up-to-date techniques and therapies to optimize patients for successful outcomes. He is well versed in the latest technological treatment options and believes every patient is an individual and each treatment plan is tailored to suit that patient’s specific needs. Dr. Malayil is honored to have been voted by his physician peers as a PHOENIX magazine TOP DOC in 2023 and 2024.

Locally, Dr. Malayil serves as Director at Large for the Arizona Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He is also involved in medical education and serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Creighton University School of Medicine- Phoenix. On a national level, Dr. Malayil is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and the North American Neuromodulation Society. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, playing golf, trying out new restaurants, and watching his beloved Pittsburgh sports teams.
